Dear Kentucky Fans,
Things are not going well. I don’t think any of the Big Blue Nation expected to be at this point (10-5, 1-1 SEC) in the season. Teas A&M is not supposed to come into Rupp Areana and take UK to the woodshed 83-71. # 31 Elston Johnson dropped 40 points in a dominating performance. I now know how Volunteer fans felt after Jodie Meeks poured in 54 on Tennessee a few years back. Nerlens Noel played his heart out and finished with an impressive stat line. (15 pts, 11 rebs, 7 blocks, 6 assist, 4 steals). Kyle Wiltjer did his best disappearing act en route to scoring 0 points. Harrow continues to improve but even with his improvement it’s not where it should be. Alex Poythress has tons of talent and potential but is too soft. The individual pieces of the puzzle are there but for a mixture of reasons these pieces are not fitting together so far.
While you certainly must tip your hat to the Aggies for executing their game-plan I think it’s time this Wildcat team take a good long look at themselves in the mirror. This team is highly inconsistent and extremely frustrating and if the season ended today they would be a bubble team. The latest Bracketology has UK as a 7 seed and with yesterday’s loss the Wildcats will continue to drop. The SEC is down this year so the conference schedule doesn’t offer much in the way of highly ranked opponents to help build their tournament resume. The Cats are a three point basket at Vandy away from being 0-2 in conference play. The final verdict on this team is yet to be determined but judging on how things have gone thus far, I think it is fair to say that UK is underachieving and performing well below expectations.
Below is the current tournament resume for the 2012-2013 Wildcats.
